Does Shopify charge GST on its plans?

Shopify’s help page says Australian stores are subject to a 10% Goods and Services Tax (GST) on their Shopify subscription and any shipping labels. You can avoid it by registering for GST and adding your Australian Business Number (ABN) to your store. The exemption applies only to invoices issued after you add the ABN.

The Australia pricing page does not say whether the listed prices include GST, so check at checkout. As a hypothetical, if GST is added on top of a $42 AUD plan, the charge would be $42 x 1.10 = $46.20 a month, or $504 x 1.10 = $554.40 for a year of Basic.

Whether you must register for GST is a separate question that depends on your turnover. Check ato.gov.au or ask an accountant; registering also affects the prices you show your own customers, and this guide is not tax advice.
