How we review Shopify apps, themes and tools

Our reviews are built from public sources that we read and date. We do not run the products ourselves for these reviews, we do not rank by commission, and prices in our newer posts show when we checked them. This page explains each step.

What a review on eComStart is

A review here is a structured summary of what a vendor publishes about its product, set against clear criteria for a Shopify merchant. It is not a lab test and it does not claim personal use. Articles are published under the eComStart Editorial Team byline.

Where our information comes from

We use public pages that anyone can open and check:

  • The vendor's pricing page and help documentation
  • The product's Shopify App Store or Theme Store listing
  • Shopify's own documentation for platform rules and limits

Each post links the pages it relies on, so you can compare our summary with the source. When a vendor makes a claim we cannot confirm, we attribute it with wording such as "the vendor says".

How we choose and order products

Comparisons written to this standard (new and rewritten posts) have a "How we chose" section that lists its criteria before the products. Typical criteria are what the free plan includes, the price of paid plans, the App Store rating and review count, the main limit, and who the product fits.

Products are ordered by those criteria. Commission plays no part in the order, and these comparisons include at least one option that pays us nothing. Each product gets one "best for" label, and we show its weaknesses next to its strengths.

How we handle prices and dates

Dated prices

In posts written or rewritten to this standard, prices appear as "from" amounts with the month we checked them and the page we used.

Ratings

We show the App Store rating with its review count and date. We do not average ratings or invent a score of our own.

Updated date

When an article is edited after its publish day, the "Updated" date at the top shows the edit date. A price check date inside the post can be older.

We record the date we checked. We do not promise a fixed re-check schedule, so treat any price as correct on the date shown and confirm it on the vendor's page before you buy.

What we have not checked

Unless a post says otherwise, we have not installed the product, used it in a store, or measured its speed, uptime, or support response. Reviews from the App Store are summarized and dated, and we do not quote them at length. Where a post relies on documentation alone, it says so.

How affiliate links fit in

eComStart earns a commission from some vendors through the Impact affiliate network. Affiliate links carry rel="sponsored". In some countries a link is a plain link, because programs pay only for certain regions. Using an affiliate link costs you nothing extra.

A commission does not change a product's place in a comparison or what we write about it. See the full affiliate disclosure.

Updates and corrections

When we find an error, or a reader reports one, we correct the article and the Updated date changes. Report errors or outdated prices to hello@ecomstart.io with the article link and the source page that shows the right information.

Who writes this

Every article is published by the eComStart Editorial Team. We do not publish personal bios or reviewer names because the work rests on public sources that you can check yourself. To learn more about the site, read About eComStart, or reach us through the contact page.
