Shopify POS cost has three monthly costs and one one-time cost. You pay for a Shopify plan (Basic $25, Grow $65 or Advanced $399 a month on the US page), an optional POS Pro add-on of $89 per location, and card processing. Hardware is bought once. Plan and add-on prices are in US dollars, as of October 2026; hardware prices show a “$” sign only.
Quick verdict
One counter and a few staff: Basic at $25 a month (monthly billing) covers in-person selling with limited staff access. Add POS Pro at $89 per location only where you need staff roles, exchanges at any location or stock transfers. That makes $114 a month for one location with POS Pro, before card fees (US, as of October 2026).
Skip POS Pro if you are a solo seller: it adds $89 a month per location for features you may never open.

How much does Shopify POS cost per month?
Shopify POS has no separate software fee on a paid plan. You pay your Shopify plan, from $25 a month on Basic, plus $89 a month for each location that uses POS Pro (US, as of October 2026). Our Shopify plan pricing guide covers what each plan includes online.

Every paid plan includes casual in-person selling: you can take in-person payments, capture basic customer information and accept limited returns and exchanges, according to the POS pricing page.
What does POS Pro add?
POS Pro adds tools for a permanent shop: more staff control, richer customer records and faster handling of exchanges and stock. Shopify lists these additions on its POS pricing page (checked October 2026):

- Rich customer profiles and lifetime value reporting
- Faster workflows for discounts, exchanges, stock transfers and in-store pickups

What are the card processing rates for in-person sales?
The pages we read do not publish Shopify Payments percentages for in-person sales. Shopify’s Help Center article on the cost of Shopify Payments says rates “vary by plan type and market”, and its card-rates article points you to your Shopify admin for your own figures. The only percentages on the pricing pages are fees for third-party payment providers.

How much does Shopify POS hardware cost?
Hardware is a one-off purchase, not part of the monthly cost. The Shopify hardware store shows a price for four devices, from $149 to $349 (checked October 2026). To start, the POS page FAQ says you need a smartphone or tablet and a Shopify card reader.

What does Shopify POS cost for one and two locations (hypothetical example)?
One location costs $25 to $114 a month and two locations on Grow cost $243 a month, before card fees (US, as of October 2026). Assumptions: monthly billing, list prices from the tables above, POS Pro at $89 per location, no introductory offers, and no card fees (they depend on your sales and payment setup). Monthly total = plan + POS Pro add-on x locations.

One-off hardware, if each location buys one of every priced device: $349 + $149 + $289 + $209 = $996 per location, so $1,992 for two locations. A card reader is extra, because its price is not shown on the pages we read.
What is the cheapest way to start with Shopify POS?
The cheapest start is Basic at $25 a month (monthly billing) or $19 a month billed yearly, without POS Pro, plus a card reader (US, as of October 2026). Shopify’s POS pricing page describes Basic as the plan for solo entrepreneurs, with limited staff access to POS and limited returns and exchanges.

Is POS Pro billed monthly or yearly?
Shopify’s pages disagree. The plan cards on the POS pricing page show “$89 USD/month/location”, while its FAQ says POS Pro is “an additional $89 USD/month billed yearly for each location” (checked October 2026). The Help Center says Basic, Grow and Advanced can choose a monthly or yearly cycle, and that you cannot downgrade on an annual cycle until it ends. No separate yearly rate is published, so the examples above use $89, and you should confirm the billing cycle at checkout.
