Sell Online and In Store With Shopify: Plans and Monthly Costs

In this article
To sell online and in store with Shopify, you need one paid plan: it includes casual in-person selling features alongside your online store. POS Pro is an optional add-on. As shown on the US POS pricing page when checked October 22, 2026, it costs $89 USD per month per location.
Quick verdict
This setup suits an owner of a shop, market stall or pop-up who also wants a web store with one stock count. Cost starts with the plan price. On Basic it is $25 per month, or $19 per month billed yearly (US page, USD, as of October 2026). POS Pro adds $89 per location only where you need it.
Our view: if you only sell in person and have no plan to sell online, price Shopify against Shopify versus Square first.

- A paid Shopify plan includes casual in-person selling features. POS Pro is an add-on at $89 USD per month per location (US, as of October 2026).
- Plan prices on the US page: Basic $25, Grow $65, Advanced $399 per month, or $19, $49 and $299 per month billed yearly.
- Shopify tracks inventory per location. New locations make inventory available for online purchases by default, and new products start at 0 there.
- Shopify says POS works in nearly every country, but Shopify Payments and integrated hardware are available only in select regions.
- Hypothetical example: a Grow plan with POS Pro at two locations is $65 + 2 x $89 = $243 per month before hardware, card fees and tax.
- Hardware prices and in-person card rates are not shown on the Shopify pages read, so they are not in any total below.

What do I need to sell online and in a shop with Shopify?
You need a paid Shopify plan, a phone or tablet with a Shopify card reader, and a location set up in your admin. Accessories are optional.
- A paid plan. Shopify’s POS pricing page says casual in-person selling features are included with every paid plan. They cover in-person payments, simple customer profiles, limited staff access and returns at the original purchase location.
- A device and a reader. To start, the page says you need a smartphone or tablet and a Shopify card reader. More on the readers is in Shopify card readers.
- A location. Add each shop in Settings, Locations. To list a location as a physical store, turn on the “Physical storefront” setting.
- Optional accessories. The pricing page lists an iPad stand, barcode scanners, cash drawers and receipt printers. See POS hardware options for choices. The hardware page shows no prices.
Check your country first. Shopify says you can use Shopify POS in “nearly every country in the world”, but that Shopify Payments and integrated Shopify POS hardware, which it recommends for the full benefits, are “available only in select regions”. Its Help Center lists the supported countries.
How does inventory stay in sync between my website and my shop?
With Shopify POS and online store sales on one account, Shopify tracks inventory per location, and your online store sells from the locations set to fulfill online orders. Shopify’s POS page says POS can keep offline and online orders in sync. The set-up below comes from the Help Center.
- Add each shop in Settings, Locations. Inventory is available for online purchases by default in each new location, and new products are stocked there at 0, so adjust the quantities.
- Set stock for each location on the Inventory page.
- Decide which locations fulfill online orders. To stop one, turn off “Inventory at this location is available to fulfill online orders”.
- Turn on pickup in store for each location under Settings, Shipping and delivery. You need at least one location that fulfills online orders and the latest checkout version.
Two behaviors to plan around. By default, pickup in store is available only when the entire order is in stock at the pickup location, unless you use store transfers. And “Continue selling when out of stock” does not apply to POS orders: staff can sell past zero after a warning. For more on stock across locations, read managing stock across locations.
What does it cost per month to run both?
The monthly cost is the plan price plus $89 USD for each location that uses POS Pro. Locations that use the included POS features add nothing. Prices below are from the US pages, as of October 2026.
| Item | Monthly | Billed yearly (per month) | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic plan | $25 | $19 | Third-party payment provider fee 2% |
| Grow plan | $65 | $49 | Third-party payment provider fee 1% |
| Advanced plan | $399 | $299 | Third-party payment provider fee 0.6% |
| Plus plan | From $2,300 | Not listed | Third-party payment provider fee 0.2% |
| POS Pro add-on, per location | $89 per month per location | Not listed separately | Billing wording differs on the page, see below. On Plus, the pricing page comparison table says “Includes 20 locations” while the Plus card says “Up to 200 POS Pro locations” |
| In-person card rate | Not listed on the pages read | Not listed | Shopify shows your rates in the Shopify Payments section of the admin |
One wording conflict. As shown on the US POS pricing page when checked October 22, 2026, the plan cards say “+ $89 USD/month/location”, while the FAQ on the same page says POS Pro is “$89 USD/month billed yearly for each location”. The page does not say how a monthly option is billed.
The examples below use $89 per month per location. If POS Pro is billed yearly, that is 12 x $89 = $1,068 billed once a year per location. Check the current figure on Shopify’s POS pricing page paid link before you buy.
For a longer cost breakdown with hardware, read what Shopify POS costs in total. Each plan is compared in Shopify plans and prices compared.
Worked example: a one-location shop and a two-location shop (hypothetical)
Assumptions: Shop A has one location on Basic. Shop B has two locations on Grow. Prices are the US figures above. The annual column is 12 times the monthly figure, if the prices stay the same. Hardware, card fees, apps and tax are not included. The cost guide linked above covers hardware.
| Shop and plan billing | POS Pro locations | Per month | Times 12, if prices stay the same |
|---|---|---|---|
| A: Basic, monthly plan price | 0 | $25 | $300 |
| A: Basic, monthly plan price | 1 | $25 + $89 = $114 | $1,368 |
| A: Basic, yearly plan rate | 1 | $19 + $89 = $108 | $1,296 |
| B: Grow, monthly plan price | 0 | $65 | $780 |
| B: Grow, monthly plan price | 2 | $65 + 2 x $89 = $243 | $2,916 |
| B: Grow, yearly plan rate | 2 | $49 + 2 x $89 = $227 | $2,724 |
POS Pro adds $1,068 a year per location in this arithmetic. Whether a location needs it is a feature question, covered next.
Which POS tier do I need, Lite or Pro?
Start with the POS features included in your plan, and add POS Pro only for locations that need what it unlocks. According to the Help Center retail guide, POS-only staff with a PIN, custom receipts and ship-to-customer orders from POS require POS Pro. The full feature split is in POS Lite versus POS Pro.
How do I add an online store to an existing shop?
Check that Shopify Payments supports online and in-person processing in your country, import your products and customers, then set up locations and POS. The steps follow Shopify’s retail guide.
- Check eligibility: the Help Center asks you to confirm that Shopify Payments supports both online and in-person processing in your country.
- Import products and customers with the app at apps.shopify.com/store-migration. The listing names Square, WooCommerce, Etsy, Wix, Amazon, eBay, Clover and Lightspeed R/X (Vend) as sources, by CSV upload or, on supported platforms, by connecting your account. It lists the price as Free and warns that some platforms do not export all data (as of October 2026).
- Install the Point of Sale channel if it is missing, and choose the POS subscription for each location. Annual POS Pro cannot be downgraded until the billing cycle ends.
- Log in to the POS app on a supported iOS or Android device. Staff need admin credentials and the “Access Point of Sale” permission.
- Run a test transaction in POS, then set up the online store. The guide lists shipping, appearance, test orders, domain and SEO.

What are the limits?
The main limits are region, number of locations, staff accounts and pickup rules. All figures below come from Shopify pages read on October 22, 2026.
- Regions. Shopify Payments and integrated hardware are available only in select regions. The card readers you can buy depend on your store’s country.
- Locations. The Help Center lists 10 active locations on Basic, Grow and Advanced and 200 on Plus. The pricing page shows the same numbers.
- Staff. Admin user accounts: 0 on Basic, 5 on Grow, 15 on Advanced, unlimited on Plus. POS-only staff do not count toward that limit, but they need at least one location on POS Pro.
- Pickup and out-of-stock selling. The pickup and POS stock rules are in the inventory section above.
- Not on the pages read. Hardware prices, in-person card rates and whether tax is included. Check them in your admin and at checkout.
